Promote reduction of road slippage and adjustment of sound barrier height
A technical seminar will be held to promote drainage and low-noise pavement* to reduce road slippage on rainy days and reduce roadside noise.
*Drainage/low-noise pavement: Road pavement that provides superior drainage performance compared to general asphalt pavement, prevents traffic accidents by increasing slip resistance and visibility in rainy weather, and reduces noise between tires and road pavement.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Park Sang-woo) will hold a seminar in Seoul on August 23 at 2 p.m. with the Korea Road Association, Drainable Pavement Association, and Ascon Cooperative to analyze domestic and foreign technology and market status and discuss ways to revitalize construction methods.
In the meantime, field pilot application and work guidelines have been promoted to expand drainage and low-noise pavement, but actual application has been limited due to difficulties in maintenance and increased construction costs.
Accordingly, early this year, the National Assembly implemented a law revision to expand drainage and low-noise packaging , and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport laid the institutional foundation by revising related enforcement rules and enacting administrative rules* in July .
*New Article 50-2 of the Road Act: Consideration of priority application of drainable and low-noise pavement to prevent road accidents and reduce noise; Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport strives to promote drainable and low-noise pavement
**Enforcement rule revision: Revision of rules on road structure and facility standards; Establishment of administrative rules: Establishment of drainage and low-noise asphalt concrete pavement structure and installation standards
In addition, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to prepare detailed technical standards by discussing construction and quality standards for drainage pavement, noise measurement standards and maintenance standards for low-noise pavement through this seminar.
Oh Soo-young, head of the road construction division at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, “We plan to expand drainage and low-noise pavement to increase driving safety and comfort for road users.”
“As the institutional foundation for revitalization has been established, we will quickly make up for technical shortcomings together with related organizations and companies,” he said.
