Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs helps marriage immigrant women settle in rural areas.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (Minister Song Mi-ryeong) announced that the “2024 Agricultural Education for Marriage Immigrant Women” will be conducted from June to November at 107 agricultural cooperatives across the country for the purpose of resolving the difficulties faced by marriage immigrant women in rural areas and supporting their settlement in rural areas.
One out of five multicultural households in Korea lives in rural areas, and although they are important members of rural society, they sometimes complain of difficulties due to language and cultural differences. Accordingly, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs prepared various education programs for approximately 930 married female immigrants from 15 countries, including Vietnam.
This supports marriage immigrant women to stably adapt to rural society, acquire farming skills, and participate in the agricultural economy. The training content includes the basics of farming, how to use agricultural machinery, field training, gender equality, and local social culture. In particular, this year, they announced that they plan to introduce a new education program for children of married immigrant women, focusing on increasing their understanding of rural life and promoting bonds between families.
Kim Jong-gu, Director of Rural Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said, “We will actively support the creation of an inclusive rural society where everyone can live together through ‘Agricultural Education for Marriage Immigrant Women’ to ensure that married immigrant women who have settled in rural areas through international marriages and local residents can coexist. “He said.
