Korea and Vietnam Expand Cooperation on Renewable Energy and Nuclear Power Training
South Korea and Vietnam have agreed to strengthen cooperation in renewable energy, nuclear power plant human resource development, and key mineral supply chains.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 11th that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on renewable energy cooperation was signed in the presence of the two leaders immediately following the South Korea-Vietnam summit held on the occasion of Vietnamese Party Secretary General Lam’s state visit to South Korea.
Furthermore, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between companies from both countries in the nuclear power plant human resource development sector, laying the foundation for concretizing South Korea-Vietnam economic cooperation and strengthening a future-oriented partnership.

As part of their cooperation toward a sustainable energy transition, the industry ministers of both countries signed a “Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Renewable Energy Cooperation.”
Through this agreement, they plan to identify projects in promising renewable energy sectors, such as solar, wind, and energy storage systems (ESS), and actively support Korean investment companies in resolving challenges.
Furthermore, KEPCO and the Vietnam Energy Industry Corporation signed an “MOU on Nuclear Power Plant Human Resources Training Cooperation.”
This agreement is expected to further strengthen the foundation for nuclear power plant construction cooperation between the two countries by fostering specialized personnel in the Korean nuclear power sector and enhancing understanding of Korean nuclear power technology.
Meanwhile, at the Korea-Vietnam Industry Ministers’ Meeting held prior to the summit, the two ministers exchanged the “Minutes of the Consultation on the Core Minerals Supply Chain Technology Cooperation Center” signed between the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology and the Vietnam Institute of Mining and Smelting Science and Technology.
Accordingly, starting in the second half of this year, the “Vietnam Core Minerals Supply Chain Technology Cooperation Center Establishment Project” will be launched with a budget of 16.6 billion won over five years. This project will involve the introduction of equipment for the beneficiation and refining of core minerals in Vietnam, technical guidance, and human resource development.
The government announced that it will actively support domestic companies to realize specific projects based on this MOU, along with public-private cooperation.
