On the afternoon of June 19, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the 6th Export Product Managers’ Meeting, chaired by First Vice Minister Kang Kyung-seong, to inspect the export situation in the first half of this year.
Korea’s exports have continued for 8 months since turning positive in October 2023, rising +9.9% from January to May 2024 compared to the previous year, recording $277.7 billion, the second-highest export performance ever (previous year 2022) Achieved 95% of USD 292.8 billion.
In particular, IT products such as semiconductors and computers accounted for 25% of total exports, up 40% from the previous year, and automobile exports also recorded $30.8 billion, the highest level ever.
First Vice Minister Kang Kyung-seong said, “Our country’s exports are showing solid growth this year, and in the first quarter of 2024, the world export ranking rose one level to 7th place,” adding, “Export growth and trade balance surplus are expected to continue in June.” “We expect excellent results overall in the first half of the year,” he said.
He also added, “We will provide support to achieve the highest export performance ever by activating export growth as much as possible through public-private cooperation.”
