Bank of Japan: “There is a possibility of raising the base interest rate next month.”
According to local broadcaster NHK, on the 18th, Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda announced that there is a possibility of raising the base interest rate at next month’s financial policy meeting.
Governor Ueda appeared before the Senate Finance and Finance Committee on the 18th and explained, “The policy interest rate may rise depending on the economic, financial situation, and price data until the next financial policy decision meeting.”
Governor Ueda also added, “We are not yet confident in achieving the Bank of Japan’s 2% price stability target,” and added, “Once confidence is strengthened, we will adjust the monetary easing policy by raising short-term interest rates.”
The Bank of Japan’s next financial policy decision meeting is scheduled to be held on the 30th and 31st of next month, and at the last financial policy meeting, it was decided to maintain the base interest rate of 0.1%.
