Completion of Large-Scale Precursor Factory, Core Secondary Battery Materials, in Saemangeum

The Saemangeum Development Agency (Director Kyung-An Kim) announced on March 11 that Eco & Dream Co., Ltd., which produces precursors * , a key material for secondary batteries , established a large-scale precursor production plant in the Saemangeum National Industrial Complex and held a completion ceremony.

   * Secondary battery precursors are key basic materials required to make cathode materials, and are key substances that directly affect battery capacity and lifespan.

□ This Saemangeum factory has a total investment of 220 billion won and has the capacity to produce 30,000 tons of precursors per year, which is a six-fold increase from the existing Cheongju factory’s 5,000-ton production capacity. Through this, Eco & Dream plans to respond to the shortage of supply in the precursor market and further strengthen its position in the global market.

□ Eco & Dream Co., Ltd. achieved sales of KRW 104.9 billion in 2024, recording the highest performance since its establishment, of which precursor sales of KRW 61.2 billion led the overall performance, and the growth of the precursor business is expected to accelerate further with the operation of the Saemangeum plant.

□ Kim Kyung-an, head of Saemangeum Development and Investment Agency, said, “Saemangeum was designated as a secondary battery specialized complex in 2023 to strengthen the global competitiveness of the secondary battery industry, and we are focusing on attracting secondary battery-related companies such as Eco & Dream and creating a stable secondary battery industry ecosystem.” He added, “We will spare no effort in securing industrial land and expanding investment promotion zones to prioritize companies and improve the living environment so that companies can comfortably focus on their corporate activities.”
