Rural Development Administration, Support for Using Artificial Intelligence and Increasing Income of Strawberry Farmers

On March 11, Kim Hwang-yong, Director of Technology Cooperation at the Rural Development Administration (RDA) (Director Kwon Jae-han), visited strawberry farms in Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do, and provided expert consulting on AI-based management innovation.

 About 10 people, including officials from the Rural Development Administration, Jeollanam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services, and Damyang-gun Agricultural Technology Center, attended the event. The attendees agreed that by precisely diagnosing the management status of farms and suggesting improvement measures, they could improve the management capacity of farms.

 Director Kim said, “As a result of the management diagnosis of the strawberry farm I visited today, it was in a situation where seedling costs could be reduced and the efficiency of own labor could be increased.” He added that the satisfaction of the farmers was high as he presented specific ways to increase income by utilizing the latest seedling technology and smart farm technology.

 Director Kim continued, “The Rural Development Administration will operate an ‘AI-based management innovation specialized consulting support team’ to provide specialized support for management and cultivation technologies that are in high demand in the field.”

 A strawberry farmer expressed satisfaction, saying, “We needed management innovation to accurately diagnose and improve the management status of our farms. Using artificial intelligence, we were able to quickly diagnose and suggest countermeasures, which was a great help in setting future management directions.”

Meanwhile, the Rural Development Administration plans to sequentially provide expert consultation to 50 farms selected from among the 5,300 farms with 117 crops that participated in the agricultural product income survey in March.
