Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, as a result of deliberation of 923.9 billion won in restoration costs for heavy rain damage in July… “confirmed”
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (Director: Minister of Public Administration and Security Lee Sang-min) announced today (23rd) that it has reviewed and finalized the total recovery cost of KRW 923.9 billion for damage from heavy rains in July (July 8-19).
During this year’s rainy season, as the stagnation front moved north to south, heavy rain fell in the Chungcheong, Jeonbuk, and Gyeongbuk regions between July 8 and 10, and in northern Gyeonggi and South Chungcheong regions between July 16 and 19.
Long-term rainfall weakened the ground, causing landslides and road slope loss, and torrential rain that exceeded the design frequency of facilities such as rivers and reservoirs caused embankments to collapse and large-scale flooding damage to occur.
The total property damage due to heavy rain this rainy season was calculated to be 318.2 billion won.
Focusing on the Chungcheong and Jeonbuk regions, damage amounting to KRW 108.4 billion occurred in ▴ 109 houses completely or partially destroyed, ▴ 3,168 households flooded, ▴ 891 ha of agricultural land lost or buried, ▴ 9,956 ha of agricultural and forestry crops, etc.
It was confirmed that damage worth KRW 209.8 billion occurred in public facilities, including ▴1,529 cases of rivers and small rivers, ▴385 cases of roads and bridges, and ▴300 landslides.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters calculated the recovery cost in accordance with the recovery cost support regulations according to the damage tally.
In the agricultural and livestock sectors, in addition to the existing disaster relief funds, additional support for damage to agricultural machinery and production facilities was decided through deliberation by the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters.
In addition, in the case of public facilities, the principle is to restore them to their original state, but in areas where embankment collapse, river flooding, or large-scale flooding occurred, an ‘improvement recovery plan’ (19 cases, KRW 422 billion) was established to prevent recurrence.
To help local governments quickly resolve damage, the government provided emergency support of 6 billion won in disaster safety special tax and 250 million won in disaster relief support project expenses, and first distributed 12.7 billion won in national disaster relief funds.
Lee Sang-min, head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, said, “The government plans to actively support those suffering from heavy rain damage so that they can quickly return to their daily lives.”
“We will quickly pay the disaster relief funds reflected in the recovery plan and do our best to ensure that facility recovery is completed as soon as possible,” he said.
