Seoul National University Hospital decides to extend consignment operation of Arab Sheikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital
The Ministry of Health and Welfare (Minister Cho Gyu-hong) announced that Seoul National University Hospital (Director Kim Young-tae) signed a renewal contract to extend the consignment operation of Sheikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for two years. The contract period is from August 14, 2024 to August 13, 2026. With this extension, consignment operation will continue until August 2026 after two extensions since the initial contract in August 2014.
Sheikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital is a tertiary specialty hospital located in Ras Al Khaimah, northern region of the UAE. It focuses on special diseases such as cancer, cranial nerves, and cardiovascular diseases and has 246 beds. The initial contract was from August 2014 to August 2019, and in July 2019, a 5-year contract for consignment operation was signed, and this time, a 2-year contract was renewed.
Seoul National University Hospital’s operation of Sheikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital is Korea’s first case of consignment operation of a large overseas tertiary medical institution, and has been operated stably for a long period of time and has been evaluated successfully locally. In particular, we are increasing satisfaction and trust in Korean medical care by operating three special centers (cancer center, cranial nerve center, and cardiovascular center) that require high-level treatment in the UAE. After successfully performing the first open heart surgery in 2015, , In 2023, the number of outpatient treatments is reaching 84,859.
This extension of consignment operation is the result of active communication with the local community based on positive evaluation and trust in Seoul National University Hospital, and is also the result of discussions on ways to cooperate in the health and medical fields between the leaders of the two countries during the UAE President’s visit to Korea in May this year.
