Ministry of Science and ICT, 2024 Youth Science March Launch Ceremony

The Ministry of Science and ICT (Minister Lee Jong-ho) and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity (Chairman Cho Joong-rae) held a launch ceremony for the “2024 Youth Science March” (hereinafter referred to as the “Science March”) on July 23.

This competition is a science and technology field trip program for youth that began in 2022 and provides a variety of scientific exploration activities, such as tours of research facilities and production processes of companies that are difficult to experience in general, and guidance from working scientists. Participants are selected through a screening process, and the number of applicants is increasing every year.

A total of 121 middle and high school students will participate in this year’s Science March, and will visit a total of 33 institutions at home and abroad. The domestic science trip for middle school students is divided into the fields of artificial intelligence, advanced mobility, and advanced bio over a four-day period from today (the 23rd) to Friday the 26th, and is held by Samsung SDS, CJ OliveNetworks, KAIST, Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, and Gwacheon National Science Museum. They will visit domestic research institutes, universities, companies, science museums, etc.

The international science expedition for high school students is scheduled to be held for six days from August 5 to 11, and will include visits to major U.S. research institutes such as NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, and Autodesk, listening to lectures by Korean scientists, and providing mentoring time. will have

Through this science journey, students are expected to gain valuable experience that will help them grow as future science and technology talents by exploring science and technology career paths and experiencing various research sites.

Hong Soon-jeong, Director of the Future Talent Policy Bureau, said, “In order for our country to develop into a science and technology powerhouse in international competition, it is important for excellent talents to enter the field of science and technology. We encourage young people to enter the field of science and technology in the hope of becoming world-class scientists. “We will pursue various policies,” he said.
