APEC Summit in Gyeongju in October… President Lee Jae-myung sends invitation letters to 20 member countries

President Lee Jae-myung sent invitation letters to the leaders of the 20 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member countries to the APEC summit to be held in Gyeongju in October, Spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung announced in a briefing on the 15th.

Spokesperson Kang explained, “Through this letter, President Lee informed the members that this year’s APEC summit will be held from October 31 to November 1 and expressed his intention to invite the member countries.”

APEC has 21 member countries, including Korea, the United States, Japan, Russia, and China.

In his letter, President Lee highly praised APEC’s contribution to sustainable economic growth and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region over the past 30 years.

He also said that this year, under the theme of “We Are Creating a Sustainable Tomorrow,” they will discuss ways to strengthen connectivity within the region, advance digital innovation, and promote prosperity, and he hopes that these discussions will bear fruit through the summit.

Spokesperson Kang said, “In advance of the summit, the APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting and the Joint Ministerial Meeting on Foreign Affairs and Trade will be held during the last week of October, the week of the summit, to spur preparations for APEC,” and “In parallel, various economic events such as the APEC Business Advisory Council and CEO Summit will also be held.”

Spokesperson Kang explained, “Since its inauguration, this government has prioritized the successful hosting of the APEC summit, and has formed a presidential office task force with all relevant secretaries to closely examine the summit schedule, infrastructure, agenda, side events, cultural events, and other matters to prepare thoroughly.” He continued, “We will continue to do our best to prepare so that we can hold the APEC summit at the highest level and create an environment for innovative economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region.”
