The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (Minister Kang Do-hyung) announced that 263 beaches that opened this year ended operations as of Thursday, August 31. During the opening period (June 1 to August 31), 41.1 million people (as of August 31) visited the beaches, an increase of approximately 8.2% compared to last year.

Of the 266 beaches that opened in total, 3 beaches in Incheon (Wangsan, Eulwangri, Hanagae) will operate until September 8
** Many beaches opened early due to the early heat, and it was found that the number of beachgoers increased due to higher-than-average temperatures during the opening period.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries conducted two inspection meetings with related organizations before the opening of the beach to ensure safe and convenient use of the beach, and conducted intensive inspections of the safety management system and operation status of various facilities at approximately 100 major beaches in each region before and after the opening of the beach. Immediate corrective measures were taken for any deficiencies to ensure the safety of beach users.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries plans to support local governments in deploying safety management personnel
after beaches close, taking into account factors such as the number of visitors, and to request the operation of various programs linked to local events and festivals so that people can enjoy and experience beaches in the fall and winter.

Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kang Do-hyung said, “I would like to thank the safety management personnel for their guidance and cooperation, and we were able to operate the beaches safely this summer.” He added, “We will work closely with local governments to ensure that the public can safely and enjoyably use the beaches even after they close.”
