A total of 10 teams participated in this competition and showed off their skills. The Rural Development Administration selected 10 teams that advanced to the finals after a first round of screening among a total of 37 teams that applied to the Beekeeping Cooking Competition website (bee-cooking.kr) from October 25 to December 2.
The judging was conducted by a six-member judging panel, including Chef Joo-yeon Choi of Walkerhill Hotel, who comprehensively evaluated the taste, creativity, and popularity of the products through tasting. As a result of the judging, a total of 10 products were awarded, including 1 Grand Prize, 3 Excellence Awards, 3 Excellence Awards, and 3 Special Awards.
The grand prize (Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award) went to the ‘Kulleong Kulleong Team’, who received a gift certificate worth 1 million won and beekeeping products as a prize.
The team presented a chocolate dessert that combined the sweetness of domestic honey, the richness of bee pollen, the savory flavor of male bee pupae, and the taste of fermentation using makgeolli byproduct, suljimi.
In particular, it increased the utilization of domestic agricultural and livestock products and received favorable reviews for being popular and creative.
Lee Sang-jae, head of the Department of Agricultural Biology at the Rural Development Administration, said, “Thanks to the great interest and support of the public, the beekeeping cooking contest has reached its fourth year this year,” and added, “This year as well, high-quality dishes that are easy to use for regular table settings and stand out for their artistry attracted attention.” He asked for much interest and affection for domestic beekeeping products.
