2024 Science Talent Education Festival to be held
The Ministry of Science and ICT (Minister Yoo Sang-im, hereinafter referred to as MSIT) and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity (Chairman Jung Woo-sung, hereinafter referred to as the Foundation) will hold the “2024 Science Gifted Education Festival” on the theme of “Growing Together in Science Gifted Education” at the Korea Science and Technology Center (Gangnam-gu, Seoul) on Monday, December 23.
The Science Gifted Education Festival was held online in 2021 to share the major achievements of the Science Gifted Education Project and various aspects of the educational field, and in 2023, it was held as a global Science Gifted Education Festival to introduce the activities and achievements of various science gifted education institutions at home and abroad.
The Science Talent Development Project is a core talent development program in science and engineering supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity since 2009. It currently supports the operation of 27 university-affiliated science talent education centers and 28 science high schools and gifted schools nationwide. This year, approximately 4,500 elementary, middle, and high school students participated in 27 university-affiliated science talent education centers nationwide. In addition, by supporting 500 teams of science high school and gifted school students’ science talent creative research (R&E) activities, it is supporting the development of research capabilities that students should have as science talents.
In addition, we are working to strengthen the international competitiveness of students by supporting their participation in the International Science Olympiad, and this year, we achieved excellent results by sweeping all the events every month. In addition, we are working to expand the base of the science talent development project, with 1,380 people participating in the online pre-education course that started in 2022 to discover potential talent.
Meanwhile, this festival will open with the Ministry of Science and ICT’s announcement of the current status and achievements of the “Strategy for Discovering and Nurturing Science Talents,” and the “Opening Discussion” that follows will provide time for members of science gifted education to consider the direction of future science gifted education policies. In addition, each conference room at the event venue will feature a variety of programs, including a special lecture* “Cybridge+” to explore careers and advancement in science and engineering, a consulting program for careers and advancement in science and engineering at science and technology specialized universities, a teacher training program, a presentation contest for students’ science gifted creative research (R&E), and the International Science Olympiad Homecoming Day, so that various members can enjoy the event as the “main characters of science gifted education.”
