Convenience stores GS25 and CU step up to help pregnant women in crisis
The Ministry of Health and Welfare (Minister Cho Kyu-hong) announced on Thursday, September 12 that it will cooperate with GS25 (GS Retail Co., Ltd.) and CU (BGF Retail Co., Ltd.) to actively promote the ‘Crisis Pregnancy Counseling Hotline 1308’.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare has been implementing the crisis pregnancy and protective childbirth support system since July 19. With the implementation of the system, 16 crisis pregnancy regional counseling centers were newly established nationwide so that crisis pregnant women who are having financial, physical, and psychological difficulties in childbirth and childrearing can ask for help at any time, and the crisis pregnancy-only counseling hotline ‘1308’ was also opened. Crisis pregnant women can call 1308 or visit a nearby regional counseling center to receive customized counseling and support to resolve their current difficulties and raise their original families.
GS25 and CU are striving to fulfill their social responsibility through corporate social contribution. Based on their original convenience store business, they are newly promoting social contribution activities to protect the lives and health of pregnant women and children in crisis.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Health and Welfare plans to increase awareness of the 1308 phone number by collaborating with GS25 and CU to place promotional materials promoting the ‘Crisis Pregnant Women Counseling Hotline 1308’ in convenience stores nationwide.
Considering that pregnant women visit convenience stores to buy pregnancy tests, GS25 attached promotional materials (Wobbler) for the crisis pregnant women hotline 1308 to the pregnancy test corners of 18,000 convenience stores nationwide. In addition, GS25 and CU decided to raise awareness of the 1308 hotline by broadcasting promotional materials for crisis pregnant women in front of the checkout counter, the place where customers spend the most time when purchasing items at convenience stores.
