The “Korea Grand Sale,” a shopping, culture and tourism festival aimed at attracting foreign tourists for the first time in the new year, will kick off on Wednesday and run for 45 days.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said it will hold the “2020 Korea Grand Sale” from July 16 to March 29 with the Visit Korea Committee.

The “Korea Grand Sale” is Korea’s leading shopping, culture and tourism festival that has been held since 2011 based on voluntary participation by private companies from all walks of life, including aviation, lodging, shopping and entertainment, to promote foreign tourists’ visit to Korea and increase tourism income.

Under the theme of “Invitation to the Korea Grand Sale,” which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, “Korea Grand Sale” invites foreign tourists to the scene of five major cultural experience festivals: K-pop, Korean beauty, Korean food, K-food, Korean heritage and Korean winter, which are only available in Korea, along with wide discounts in various fields.

Attractive and convenient tours to Korea, 1,100 companies offering a wide range of benefits

The “Korea Grand Sale,” which involves more than 1,100 companies, offers various benefits of visiting Korea.

First of all, if you look at the discounts on transportation and accommodation, there are a variety of benefits, including up to 95% discount on 100 air routes from overseas to Korea, 1+1 discount on local travel packages (K-Travel Bus) and up to 35% discount on KTX tickets that combine tickets to major tourist destinations.

It will also support up to 80 percent discounts at more than 300 hotels across the country, and discounts on ski resort accommodation and equipment rental to promote tourism in Korea and provinces.

In shopping, food and other areas, the company will offer shopping benefits such as “Korea Grand Sale Special Exhibition” at duty-free shops and immediate refunds of credit card companies’ discounts and additional taxes within the “Korea Sale” period.

In addition, it will introduce foreign favorites to Korea in various areas, including the composition and discount of special menus for the hotel’s food and beverage facilities, as well as discounts for admission to amusement parks and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.

The Visit Korea Committee will provide convenience services for foreigners visiting Korea during the Korea Grand Sale and spread the welcoming atmosphere to make it easier for them to travel here.

It operates “Welcome Centers” at Dongdaemun, Incheon International Airport and Gimpo airports, which are frequented by foreigners, and operates “visiting tourist service centers” to Namsan, Dongdaemun and Hongdae to provide tour guides, interpretation (English, Chinese and Japanese) Korean culture experience programs. It will also support travel convenience services through sales of tour-type “Korea Tour Card” and storage and delivery services to major hubs such as airports and hotels.

Foreign Invitation Event Promote ‘Festival Field of Enjoying and Consuming Korean Culture’

The ministry’s Overseas Culture and Information Service and the Visit Korea Committee will invite 10 honorary journalists from 10 Asian and European countries during the Korea Grand Sale.

The group of reporters, consisting of radio directors, broadcasting station reporters and magazine editors, plans to directly experience the “2020 Korea Grand Sale” for three nights and four days starting with the opening ceremony on July 16 and promote Korea’s appeal to 510,000 subscribers of the Nuri Network.

In particular, a group of reporters visit cultural experience sites that are held for foreign tourists.

Visitors will enjoy Korean culture and experience hallyu through crafts and hanbok prepared by the Korean Cultural Foundation, beauty classes at Sulwhasoo stores (beauty classes) and K-pop choreography learned at “One Million Dance Studio.”

Lisa Ling (Germany, 25), who runs YouTube channels and focuses on beauty in Korea, said, “The area I am most interested in is skin care in Korea,” adding, “I expect to learn new skin care.

Meanwhile, the opening ceremony of the “2020 Korea Grand Sale” was held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Welcome Center in front of Duta Mall in Dongdaemun.

Second Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Yoon-hee thanked officials of companies participating in the “Korea Grand Sale” and delivered large invitations to foreign tourists, welcoming the visit to Korea.

Vice Minister Choi said, “Korea Grand Sale is meaningful in that it is an event to attract foreign tourists, which has continued for 10 years with the participation of various private companies,” adding, “With this event, the public and the public will actively promote Korea and open an era of 20 million foreign tourists.”
