Strengthening safety at cultural, sports, and tourism sites by starting special safety inspections at winter construction sites

Minister Yoo In-chon meets to strengthen fire prevention and management measures

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) held a meeting on ‘Fire Prevention and Management Reinforcement Measures’ on Monday, February 3, chaired by Minister Yoo In-chon. At the meeting, Minister Yoo In-chon ordered special safety inspections of 13 locations currently under construction, and urged fire prevention and thorough safety management not only at construction sites but also at multi-use facilities such as art galleries, museums, and performance halls.

Minister Yoo also emphasized, “When it comes to construction site fires, it is most important that the prevention system operates without stopping. To prevent the same accidents from happening again, periodically diagnose and supplement whether safety rules are being followed on site and whether safety education and inspections are being properly implemented.”

Accordingly, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will begin special safety inspections of 13 construction sites, including the Danginri Cultural Creation Power Plant, starting on February 5, and will inspect the status of major disaster prevention at 38 affiliated organizations by June, expanding to focused safety inspections at 31 public organizations. In particular, taking the recent fire at the National Hangeul Museum as a lesson, the Ministry plans to further strengthen safety at cultural, sports, and tourism sites that are directly related to the safety of the people.

Meanwhile, Minister Yoo In-chon arrived at the scene of the fire at the National Hangeul Museum on Saturday, February 1, and after checking the fire-extinguishing situation and the extent of the damage, he apologized to the public and promised thorough inspections and safe maintenance of multicultural facilities under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
