Rumpy Skin Disease Occurred at Hanwoo Farms in Gangwon (Inje) and Chungnam (Dangjin)… Quarantine Strengthened
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (Minister Song Mee-ryung, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs) announced on October 25 that a Hanwoo farm in Inje-gun, Gangwon-do (128 cattle raised) and a Hanwoo farm in Dangjin-si, Chungcheongnam-do (18 cattle raised) tested positive for lumpy skin disease after a detailed examination of suspicious symptoms such as skin nodules.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has dispatched an initial quarantine team and an epidemiological investigation team to the affected farm to prevent the spread of lumpy skin disease and is controlling the entry of outsiders, livestock, and vehicles into the farm. In addition to conducting an epidemiological investigation, the Ministry plans to cull infected cattle in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
In addition, a temporary stoppage order was issued for workers and vehicles at livestock-related facilities such as small farms, slaughterhouses, and feed factories in 7 cities and counties in Gangwon-do (Inje, where the outbreak occurred, and neighboring Yanggu, Chuncheon, Hongcheon, Yangyang, Sokcho, and Goseong) and 4 cities and counties in Chungcheongnam-do (Dangjin, where the outbreak occurred, and neighboring Asan, Yesan, and Seosan), and quarantine measures such as intensive disinfection of small farms and surrounding roads were strengthened. In addition, the crisis alert level for 4 cities and counties (Chuncheon, Dangjin, Yesan, and Seosan) was raised to the ‘serious’ level.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs emphasized, “Related organizations and local governments should timely vaccinate pregnant cows and calves, etc. that are subject to deferral, and do their utmost in quarantine management, such as controlling vector insects,” and asked, “Cattle farms should thoroughly follow basic quarantine rules, such as controlling vector insects such as lumpy skin larvae.”
