Songsan Green City, 27% reduction in greenhouse gases through installation of solar and mixed energy stations
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Park Sang-woo) announced that it would designate Songsan Green City (Southern District) as a smart green industrial complex on Tuesday, October 8.
The Smart Green Industrial Complex is a system that aims to reduce greenhouse gases by introducing digitalization, increased energy self-sufficiency, and eco-friendly development from the stage of industrial complex development.
Designation status: Saemangeum Smart Green National Model Industrial Complex (‘22.7), Daegu Yulha Smart Green National Model Industrial Complex (‘22.12), Miryang Nano-Fusion Smart Green Industrial Complex (‘23.4), Jeonju Carbon Material Smart Green National Model Industrial Complex (‘23.12), Gyeongnam Aviation Smart Green Industrial Complex (‘24.5)
Songsan Green City is part of the Sihwa District of the Banwol Special Zone Development Project, and has been under development by the Korea Water Resources Corporation since 2011. The main plan for designating the southern area (6.6 million m2) as a smart green industrial complex is as follows.
In order to expand renewable energy, we plan to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by approximately 27.7% by installing solar power panels (33.5 MW) and fuel cells (6 MW) on industrial facility sites.
Emissions: 630,000 TC/year, Reduction: 136,000 TC/year from energy efficiency, 39,000 TC/year from renewable energy supply
Previously, solar power installation was recommended, but Songsan Green City will make solar power installation mandatory for companies moving in (at least 20% of the site area). In addition, the district unit plan will make it mandatory to install high-efficiency energy utilization facilities and building energy management systems (BEMS).
BEMS is a system that monitors energy usage within a building and provides optimized energy management methods.
We plan to build smart transportation infrastructure and promote digitalization of industrial complexes by linking them with the Hwaseong City Smart City Integrated Platform Server.
In the east and west of the district, two combined energy stations capable of charging electric and hydrogen vehicles will be built, and a smart logistics pilot city project will be promoted in conjunction with the distribution business facility site in the south.
In addition, we plan to introduce a smart water supply system to promote water circulation and efficient maintenance, and maintain the natural water circulation system through permeable block paving.
Ahn Se-chang, Director General of Land Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, “We expect that developing Songsan Green City into a smart green industrial complex will contribute to achieving carbon neutrality in the Sihwa area.”
