The National Police Agency (Chief Cho Ji-ho) forcibly repatriated Mr. A, the last unindicted suspect in the Korean murder case that occurred in Thailand last May, through Incheon International Airport on the morning of Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

With this incident, one person was arrested in Korea immediately after the incident occurred, one person was arrested and repatriated from Cambodia, and the last suspect was arrested and repatriated from Vietnam on September 12, thus concluding the pursuit and arrest of suspects in the Korean murder case.

In particular, the suspect arrested this time moved his hideout using various methods, such as stealing other people’s IDs, to cope with the police’s continuous pursuit after his accomplices were arrested in Korea and Cambodia in May 2024.

The National Police Agency (International Cooperation Division) issued an Interpol Red Notice for the fugitive suspect and focused on tracking and arresting the suspect in cooperation with neighboring countries such as Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. The police classified the suspect as a key fugitive and collected information on the suspect’s whereabouts through various channels and persistently pursued him.

In the process of arresting a suspect who had fled overseas, the command of the National Police Agency, information from the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency’s Mobile Criminal Investigation Unit, overseas dispatched police officers, and overseas diplomatic missions all played important roles. In particular, after the investigation team confirmed that the suspect was located in Vietnam, the National Police Agency dispatched a Vietnamese cooperation officer to the site and requested a speedy arrest in cooperation with the South Korean Embassy in Vietnam. The police officers dispatched to Vietnam worked with local law enforcement agencies to collect relevant information, track the suspect’s movements, and narrow the net.

In the process, the investigation team secured clues related to the suspect on September 11, 2024, and the National Police Agency (International Cooperation Office) shared these clues in real time with local public security and overseas missions and began the final tracking.

Thanks to the useful clues secured by the domestic investigation team and the strong international cooperation between the National Police Agency and local law enforcement agencies, the local police raided the hideout in Vietnam on September 12, 2024 and arrested the suspect. With this, all three perpetrators of the Korean murder case in Thailand were arrested in just four months.

Afterwards, reflecting the seriousness of this case and the public interest, the National Police Agency continued to request the Vietnamese side to quickly transfer the suspect, and on Tuesday, September 24, dispatched an escort officer to Vietnam to forcibly repatriate the suspect.

A police official said, “We will further strengthen international cooperation under the principle of tracking down and arresting major fugitives who have fled overseas and bringing them to justice.”
