In the session “Promoting Free Trade and Investment to Accelerate Sound Economic Growth” held following the opening ceremony, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Jeong In-kyo said that in order to respond to the rapidly changing trade environment such as carbon neutrality and digital economy transition, ▲promoting the sustainability and inclusiveness of free trade. Measures for this: ▲Presenting the Korean government’s major policies and the direction of international cooperation related to multilateral and bilateral norms to protect the free trade system.
In the session “A Trustworthy Path to Sustainable Growth Amidst Interconnected Global Crises” held the following day, the Korean government’s efforts, such as the CFE (Carbon Free Energy) initiative, will be discussed amidst the three major global crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental pollution. We introduce ways to overcome the crisis, involve stakeholders, and cooperate with the OECD.
Meanwhile, the government plans to attend the WTO Small-scale Trade Ministers’ Meeting held on the sidelines of this Ministerial Council meeting as a government representative, emphasizing the need to complete WTO reform, including the reform of the dispute settlement system, and seek ways to cooperate among member countries to successfully implement the outcomes of the 13th WTO Ministerial Meeting. am. In addition, Director In-Kyo Jeong plans to hold bilateral discussions with the trade ministers of France, New Zealand, and Mexico and the Secretary-General of the OECD. He will raise difficulties related to electric vehicle subsidies for Korean companies to the French trade minister, and discuss issues with New Zealand such as DEPA, IPEF, WTO, etc. We plan to discuss ways to strengthen international cooperation, trade issues such as import tariff increases with Mexico, and cooperation measures such as the promotion of the Korea-Mexico FTA.
