Prime Minister issues emergency order regarding Typhoon No. 9 ‘Jongdari’
Prime Minister Han Deok-soo issued the following emergency instructions to relevant ministries and local governments as Typhoon No. 9 ‘Jongdari’ is expected to affect Jeju Island and the southern region from Tuesday, August 20.
- In preparation for the situation where damage to the coastal area is concerned due to the typhoon’s northward path along the west coast and the August contrast period (August 20-23), thorough inspections and preemptive controls will be carried out.
- Prevent casualties by installing disaster safety lines and preemptively banning entry to coastal camping sites, trails, and coastal roads.
- Strengthen safety inspections on facilities and equipment such as signs, construction materials, and fishing boats that are likely to be damaged in the event of strong winds, and thoroughly prepare for swells and flooding of major facilities such as coastal seawalls and parking lots.
- We will conduct emergency inspections to prevent additional damage in areas affected by heavy rain during the rainy season last July, and take all measures to ensure safety.
- Disseminate key information, such as the typhoon’s path, affected areas and time zones, and citizen action tips, to residents in as detailed and rapid a manner as possible through disaster text messages and subtitled broadcasts.
- Each ministry and local government must respond proactively by activating a preemptive emergency system and mobilizing all administrative power to prevent damage to the public.
- In particular, all agencies, including the National Police Agency, Coast Guard, National Fire Agency, and local governments, must share risk information in real time and cooperate organically to respond effectively.
