K-food craze shines at Singapore’s largest food fair!
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (Minister Song Mi-ryeong) and the Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation (CEO Kim Chun-jin) participated as the Korean pavilion at the ‘2024 Singapore International Food Fair (FHA Food & Beverage)’ held in Singapore from the 23rd to the 26th, exporting $41.8 million. The consultation was successful.
The Singapore International Food Expo, boasting a 47-year history, is one of the largest exhibitions in Southeast Asia. Over 1,550 food companies from 52 countries around the world, including Asian countries such as Singapore, Europe, the United States, Australia, and South America, participate, and about 100 countries 6 It is a representative international food fair visited by over 10,000 people.
To expand the K-food market in Southeast Asia, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Corporation collaborated with local governments in Gyeongbuk, Jeonbuk, and Gangwon, the Ginseng Council, strawberry and paprika export integration organizations, and 35 excellent export companies to form an ‘Integrated Korea Pavilion’ with a total of 52 booths. In addition, various promising export items such as ginseng, strawberries, paprika, kimchi, beverages, health foods, and snacks were promoted intensively.
The Korean pavilion showcased representative K-foods such as strawberries, tteokbokki, and makgeolli, which are preferred by local people, as well as healthy, fresh, high-quality promising products such as lactic acid bacteria, alternative meat, health functional foods, paprika, and grapes, attracting great interest from buyers around the world. It received favorable reviews.
In particular, the ‘Ginseng Promotion Hall’ introduced in-depth the production process and efficacy of top-quality Korean ginseng products grown in optimized climate and soil conditions, attracting constant inquiries from visitors and local distributors.
A Singaporean buyer who visited the Korean pavilion said, “Due to the popularity of Korean Wave content, K-food and Korean products are very familiar and have high local demand,” adding, “At this expo, Southeast Asian distributors, including Singapore, will sell sophisticated and high-quality K-food.” “We are looking for the Korean pavilion as if we are competing to secure it,” he said.
Kwon Oh-yeop, director of export food, said, “Singapore is a key gateway to entering the Southeast Asian market and is very important,” adding, “We will continue to participate in large-scale exhibitions and actively pursue various online and offline export support projects to continuously expand K-food exports.” “I will do it,” he said.
