A taxi driver who retired from public service saved a portion of his profits for a year and donated them to the local community.

According to Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, on the 19th, Park Yun-seok (61), who drives a private taxi, delivered 1.2 million won in donations to help neighbors to the Unnam-dong Administrative Welfare Center about 10 days before Chuseok.

Mr. Park started operating a private taxi in July of last year after 30 years of public service.

He collected the taxi fares he received from the first customer every day and raised a fund to help his neighbors.

The donation will be delivered as Chuseok consolation money to vulnerable groups living in Unnam-dong through the Together Mine Sharing Culture Foundation.

Mr. Park said, “I thought I had to do something, so I set ‘donating my first customer’s income’ as a principle for the second act of my life,” and added, “If putting it into practice can provide even a little bit of comfort to those in need, there will be no greater joy.”
