Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to focus on 7 winter sports in preparation for the ‘2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics’

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon and Second Vice Minister Jang Mi-ran held a ‘Winter Sports Cooperation Meeting’ at the Seoul Olympic Parktel on the afternoon of Monday, March 31, and discussed support measures for the ‘2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics’ and listened to opinions from the field with around 20 people, including heads of organizations and coaches from seven winter sports: ice skating, skiing and snowboarding, biathlon, bobsleigh and skeleton, luge, curling, and mountain skiing.
This cooperation meeting was held to listen to voices from the field and seek necessary support measures to achieve excellent results at the 2026 Winter Olympics, following the overall second place finish at the Harbin Asian Winter Games last February.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will first support training, equipment purchases, and information collection that can have a short-term, direct impact on improving winter sports performance this year, and will sequentially pursue long-term support such as facility construction and athlete village renovation by reflecting it in the 2026 budget. In addition, it will form a consultative body with winter sports organizations, the Korea Sports Council, etc. to continuously discuss and communicate matters necessary for the development of winter sports.
Minister Yoo In-chon said, “There is a lot that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Sports Council need to do to ensure that our national athletes maintain their peak performance in preparation for the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics,” and added, “We will improve training conditions for winter sports so that our athletes can achieve good results and provide sufficient support so that those involved in the sports do not feel left out.”
