Fostering the ‘K-content’ sector using AI… 2nd supplementary budget of 21 billion won

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is fostering the entire ‘K-content’ industry utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 25th that it will promote the ‘K-content AI innovation leading project’ by investing 21 billion won in the second supplementary budget together with the Korea Creative Content Agency.

The utilization of AI technology in the content industry is being studied from various angles, from increasing work efficiency by partially incorporating AI technology into existing production methods to creating new fields based on highly immersive interaction and emotional intelligence.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to actively support leading projects that can lead to diversification of the profit structure of ‘K-content’ and strengthening global competitiveness based on AI technology that is spreading throughout the content industry.

While the ‘AI Content Production Support Project (KRW 24.5 billion)’ projects being carried out with this year’s main budget and the first supplementary budget are mainly focused on the production stage, the ‘Leading Project’ project focuses on supporting the entire production cycle of the content industry, including planning, production, distribution, and promotion.

Going beyond short-term production support, we plan to discover projects that create new business models by considering the possibility of overseas market expansion and industrial ripple effects from initial planning.

In addition, while existing projects were mainly conducted by individual companies, the Leading Project project allowed large and medium-sized companies, small and medium-sized companies, and startup companies to form alliances and participate.

Through this, we will promote the creation of an ecosystem of mutual growth and coexistence that is suitable for the AI era through cooperation between large and medium-sized companies that possess key infrastructure such as intellectual property (IP) and distribution networks, startups that possess AI technology related to content, and small and medium-sized content production, distribution, and sales companies.

Details on the contest and the application process can be found in the ‘Notice Board – Support Announcement’ on the KOCCA website (www.kocca.kr).

The selected projects will proceed with the tasks until May of next year after signing an agreement.

We plan to hold an ‘AI Content Festival’ at the end of this year to share the performance cases of excellent content companies participating in the main budget and the first supplementary budget projects and support the promotion of exchanges between companies based on this.

A policy officer from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said, “It is time to prepare for the next leap forward by using the AI transition as a new opportunity for K-content, and we will actively support large and medium-sized companies, small and medium-sized companies, and startup companies to become one team and present a business model targeting the global stage.”
