21st Presidential Election: Official Campaigning Begins on the 12th — How Can Voters Cast Their Precious Ballot?

Official Campaigning for the 21st Presidential Election Begins on the 12th

The official campaign period for the 21st presidential election began on the 12th. For 22 days, until the day before the election on June 2, candidates are allowed to campaign using methods not restricted by the Public Official Election Act.

During this period, candidates, their spouses, immediate family members, campaign managers, and campaign staff may distribute name cards and put up banners. However, political parties are prohibited from using facilities to promote their policies or positions on political issues. Any previously installed banners must be removed by the 11th.

Notably, high school seniors who are 18 years old will be able to cast their vote for the first time in this presidential election on June 3. Since the 2020 general election, South Korea has granted voting rights to individuals aged 18 and above.

Accordingly, those born on or before June 4, 2007, will be eligible to vote in the upcoming presidential election and will be listed on the electoral register.

As official campaigning begins, both the Ministry of Education and the National Election Commission are working to support the proper exercise of voting rights by 18-year-old voters. On the 8th, staff from the North Chungcheong Provincial Election Commission visited Cheongju Girls’ Commercial High School to explain the significance of elections, voter rights, how to vote, and important precautions when voting.

Meanwhile, early voting for the 21st presidential election will take place on Thursday and Friday, May 29 and 30, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at early voting stations nationwide. The main election will be held on Tuesday, June 3, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., followed by the official ballot count to confirm the elected president.
