The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO, Commissioner Wan-ki Kim) announced that it will hold a meeting on Thursday, March 27 at 3:30 PM at Youngpoong Co., Ltd. (Dalseo-gu, Daegu), a food company that received support for the ‘Global IP Star Company Development’ program, to hear voices from the industrial field.

 This on-site visit was arranged to listen to the difficulties faced by companies exporting our traditional food, such as tteokbokki, overseas by utilizing intellectual property rights and to reflect these in the support project for overseas expansion of small and medium-sized enterprises * .

 * Fostering global IP star companies: Supporting small and medium-sized companies’ entry into the global market by providing overseas expansion patent strategy support, product/packaging design development, non-English brand development, etc.

 Youngpoong Co., Ltd. is a company that developed a tteokbokki meal kit that can be distributed for a long time at room temperature. Based on its patented technology, it has entered 108 countries around the world and is expanding its territory into various food fields. Youngpoong Co., Ltd. CEO Jaegon Cho was selected as a ‘Proud Small and Medium Business’ in 2024 in recognition of his contribution to leading K-food exports through technological innovation and brand value creation.

 Youngpoong Co., Ltd. was selected as a ‘Global IP Star Company’ through the Daegu Intellectual Property Center and received support for the development of optimized brands and packaging designs for each overseas market. Based on the overseas competitiveness secured after receiving support as a Global IP Star Company, exports increased and sales increased by 47% (KRW 13.6 billion) during the support period (‘22~’24 ) .

 Kim Wan-ki, Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office, said, “K-food is a key industry that is expanding its influence in the global market and will be the key to enhancing future national competitiveness and brand value.” He added, “The Korean Intellectual Property Office will continue to strengthen various support measures in cooperation with relevant organizations so that companies can secure stronger competitiveness in overseas markets.”
