Government Launches Nationwide Campaign “Autumn Travel 2025” to Boost Local Economy and Tourism

The South Korean government has launched a nationwide campaign, “Autumn Travel 2025,” running until November, aimed at revitalizing the local economy and promoting domestic tourism. On September 16, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST), the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, along with six major economic organizations including the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, held a joint declaration ceremony to announce the start of the campaign. Singer Chuu has been appointed as the campaign ambassador.

The MCST and the Korea Tourism Organization will provide large-scale travel discounts and organize special travel-linked events. The Interior Ministry will introduce a list of recommended islands for autumn travel. The Agriculture Ministry has designated the second week of each month from August to November as “Rural Tourism Week,” promoting rural tourism packages as well as initiatives such as the “K-Food Belt” and brewery tours. The Oceans Ministry will operate a stamp tour at 18 fishing village resorts and develop coastal cruise tourism products to expand domestic cruise demand.

During the campaign, the public can access discounts across transportation, accommodation, and travel products. In transportation, benefits include:

  • 50% off tourist trains
  • KRW 10,000 discount on the “Rail Pass for Tomorrow” (Naeilro Pass)
  • KRW 20,000 off domestic regional flights
  • 30% discount on intercity and express buses to population-declining regions
  • Up to KRW 20,000 in Onnuri gift certificates for eco-friendly safe driving travelers

In accommodation, offers include:

  • KRW 20,000–50,000 discount coupons through the “Accommodation Sale Festa”
  • KRW 20,000–30,000 discounts at certified quality lodgings
  • KRW 10,000 discounts on camping sites

For travel products, benefits include up to 30% discounts on special autumn packages and an average 45% discount on six themed programs.

The campaign also features diverse travel content. Popular programs from last year, such as the “One-Day Train Tour” (1,000 participants) and the “Mystery Tour” (100 participants), where travelers join influencers or embark on trips without knowing the itinerary, are back this year. Newly opened attractions such as “Janggeum Park” in Jeongeup (opening in September) and the Jinan National Forest Healing Center (opening in October) will welcome visitors. In addition, 27 hidden attractions including Hwage Garden in Gyodong Island (Incheon) and Wolasan Forest in Jinju (South Gyeongsang) will be promoted.

Popular character “Zanman Lupi” will also join the campaign. Limited edition emoticons (30,000 units) will be distributed at 19 hidden attractions and selected sites from the “Korea Tourism 100 for 2025–2026.” Local governments are also participating with additional events, such as Jeonbuk Province and the Korea Rural Community Corporation offering tour pass discounts, and Geochang County (South Gyeongsang) providing accommodation and dining receipt promotions.
