Additionally, the Korea Meteorological Administration announced that a cold wave warning will be issued throughout Seoul as of 9 p.m. on the 20th. A cold wave warning is issued when the minimum morning temperature is below -15 degrees for more than two days or when the temperature drops rapidly and major damage is expected. This cold wave shows the characteristics of an Arctic cold wave, with high-latitude cold air flowing directly into Korea due to the influence of the pressure ridge formed in the Ural Mountains.
The 21st and 22nd are expected to be the ‘peak’ of this cold, and the morning temperature will be 5 to 10 degrees lower than that day. The morning temperature in the central inland is expected to be around -15 degrees Celsius, and in the central coast and southern inland it is expected to be around -10 degrees Celsius.
