K-Beauty, leading the way by strengthening intellectual property competitiveness!
The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO, Commissioner Wan-ki Kim) visited Cosmax Co., Ltd. (Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do), the number one domestic patent application company in the cosmetics field, on Tuesday, November 26 at 1:00 PM to strengthen the intellectual property competitiveness of the beauty industry, held a joint discussion (seminar) and listened to voices from the field.
This on-site visit was arranged to check the rapidly changing trends in the beauty industry, such as the recent significant increase in interest in color cosmetics and functional cosmetics, amid Korea’s cosmetics exports ranking 4th in the world (as of 2023), and to discuss support measures for the K-beauty industry.
At the joint discussion (seminar) held on this day, information on patent trends in the cosmetic materials field and application technologies for each material was shared, and in-depth discussions were held on patent examination support measures to strengthen the intellectual property competitiveness of the K-beauty industry.
Based on the opinions collected during this on-site visit, the Patent Office plans to establish an examination policy that is in line with the changing trends in the global beauty industry and reflect it in the examination standards for the cosmetics industry.
The Acting Director of the Chemical and Biological Examination Bureau of the Korean Intellectual Property Office, Seung-Kwan Jo, said, “Our country is the world’s fourth largest cosmetics exporter, and domestic cosmetics companies have high competitiveness in the global market based on their advanced technologies,” and added, “We will continue to actively support the strengthening of the global competitiveness of our cosmetics companies through continuous communication with the industrial field.”
