Domestic driver’s license holders can obtain a license in Utah, USA without taking a practical test
The National Police Agency (Commissioner General George Ho Cho) plans to sign a ‘Korea-Utah Driver’s License Mutual Recognition Agreement’ with the U.S. state of Utah on Thursday, September 26, 2024.
This agreement is the result of cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in San Francisco) since June 2024 to support overseas nationals in line with the trend of globalization, and Utah will become the 27th state in the United States to sign a driver’s license reciprocal recognition agreement with Korea.
Beginning Thursday, October 3, 2024, seven days after the agreement is signed, people with valid driver’s licenses issued in the Republic of Korea will be able to exchange them for a Utah driver’s license with only a written exam without a separate practical exam.
Anyone who legally resides in the United States and has a valid Korean driver’s license (Class 1 Large, Special, Regular, and Class 2 Regular) residing in Utah can obtain a Utah driver’s license (Class D) by simply passing the written test.
In addition, people who legally reside in Korea, complete alien registration, and hold a Utah driver’s license (Class A, B, C, D) can also obtain a Korean driver’s license (Class 2 regular license) by taking only a written exam without a practical exam.
Police Commissioner General George Ho said, “We expect that this agreement will contribute to improving the convenience of our overseas citizens residing in Utah and strengthening the friendship between our two countries.”
