Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries inspects Busan Port new port construction site, “Preparing for typhoon.”
Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kang Do-hyung visited Pier 7 of Busan Port’s New Port on Friday, August 30 to inspect the port expansion project and typhoon preparedness.
Busan Port New Port Pier 7 is Korea’s first fully automated container terminal that opened in April of this year. It currently has three berths in operation (Busan Port New Port Phase 2-5), and construction is underway to build two more berths by 2027 (Busan Port New Port Phase 2-6).
Minister Kang received a report from the Busan Port Authority on the progress of additional port construction and emergency operation plans in preparation for disasters such as summer typhoons, and reviewed the initial response measures and situation recovery plans step by step in the event of a disaster.
Minister Kang emphasized to the on-site officials, “Busan Port is an important port that handles 77% of domestic container traffic, so we must thoroughly prepare for natural disasters such as typhoons so that there are no disruptions to export and import logistics.” He also asked them, “I urge you to thoroughly manage the on-site to prevent safety accidents at ports and construction sites.”
