Cuddy, grandson of Dosan Ahn Chang-ho, gives surfing lessons to descendants of independence activists
Wave Park announced on the 14th that it held an ‘invitation event for descendants of independence activists’ for six elementary school students who are descendants of independence activists in Korea, including Mr. Cuddy.
Mr. Cuddy, who came to Korea at the invitation of the Korean government to attend the 78th anniversary of Liberation Day, talked about surfing and the spirit of the independence movement with descendants of Korean independence activists like himself, and taught surfing for over an hour.
Mr. Cuddy is the son of Mrs. Ahn Susan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs Dosan’s , and her Irish-American husband, and will be Dosan’s only grandson.
He started surfing at the age of 12 at the recommendation of his mother. He is a first-generation Korean surfer with 22 years of surfing experience.
After learning about the news that Wave Park opened in October 2020, Mr. Cuddy, who contacted Wave Park directly, conducted a surfing-related program at Wave Park in May of the following year, and as a result, he is acting as an honorary advisor to Wave Park.
Mr. Cuddy said, “Like Dosan’s spirit of loving others (love others as you love yourself), surfing can be an opportunity to love the sea, others, and yourself.” It is a great opportunity to grow,” he said.
An official from Wave Park said, “For corporate social responsibility, we are conducting various social contribution activities such as invitational events for the underprivileged and multicultural families, employee flogging campaigns, etc.” We have prepared an event for inviting descendants.”
